CU theme day "Thermoplastic composites”

2/27/20

In February more than 100 international participants from the environment of Composites United e.V. (CU) met in Schwertberg, Austria for the theme day "Thermoplastic Composites – A trend with implications?

Invitations were issued by the regional Carbon Composites (CC) departments CC East and CC Austria as well as the CU working groups Multi-Material Design, Thermoplastic Composites, Manufacturing Processes & Automation, Additive Manufacturing and Tool & Mould Making. The event was hosted by the youngest member of the CU network, ENGEL AUSTRIA.

In addition to the factory tour at ENGEL, several high-calibre impulse presentations ensured the strong interest of the guests from industry and science. For example, Dr.-Ing. Michael Krahl from the start-up company ROBIN presented a novel mobile injection moulding technology in his lecture. The system can be used flexibly and robot-guided and enables the cost-effective functionalisation of flat metal or fibre composite semi-finished products.

"I am delighted that we have succeeded in making this impressive first visit to ENGEL. The event in Schwertberg with guests from the entire CU regions confirms the great topicality of thermoplastic composites on the one hand, but of course also speaks very much for the great host," said Dr. Thomas Heber from the CU network, summarising the event.
